#1-easiest option, price depends on YMM of your car, Take your VIN # to a dealer and they will get you a new key, may take a few days.
#2-takes some work, $15-20, go to radio shack and get a resistor to match the resistance of the chip in your key and do security bypass by tricking the computer into believing there is the proper key in the cylinder. Never need a chipped key after this. Only downside is you need to know the resistance of your current key, that you don't have.
Hello
No. The key you have does not have the Immobilizer chip in it so they cannot read it to make a new one.
They will not be able to fit one to the key you have as it is only a physical key. Keep it in your wallet in case you lock your keys in the car.
When you got your car did you get a folder with hand books? If so look for a credit card type card with Radio code, Key code, Security code ect. Take this with the Physical key to get another one made.
This will not include the remote.
If you do not have that go to the dealers with proof of ownership and they can look it up, They will charge you for that and a lot more to get you a proper key with remote. When you get home you will probably have to match car to remote.

Some larger locksmiths have the equipment to get into the car's computer & make you a new FOB, but most don't. Time to look in the yellowpages, because the locksmith may be able to come to you & make the new FOB. If not, you may have to have the car towed to a factory dealer.
Nope.. that key you have is a valet key or a back up key used if the doors are locked but usually wont start the car. Better find those keys a new set for a modern car is expensive like 100-200 bucks a key and only dealers can cut a chipped key and they need your title and other forms to verify its your car.
So I just lost the keys to my car right now, I have a spare key that I had before but since it doesn't have the chip or the computer it will turn on the car but it will turn off right away. It's already cut to the cars shape because it will also open the door , if I take it to a locksmith will they be able to maybe put in a new chip/ computer whatever it has inside? I need it by tommorow. Thanks! I'm new to this whole key thing as well
