Your car comes with a computer to make sure everything still runs fine without 91 octane gas. The computer will change the timing of your engine and all that tech-y stuff that's too hard to explain.
The only downside is your gas mileage will suffer and your car will feel sluggish until that tank is used up.
From now on, never ever fill up with 87 and your car will be fine. Always use 91 or 93 octane!
Just so you understand the basics of how octane works, In a truck like mine...yes you can blow the engine. It has no computer controls and unless I want to "detune" it by adjusting timing on the distributor and the carburetor myself, it cannot run on anything lower than 89 octane or else it will "ping" which is very damaging. It would also run with worse performance and worse gas mileage which will be the exact same thing your Audi will do electronically (it will retard timing and adjust fuel mixture) resulting in similar performance loss. Your engine will not be operating optimally and there is a slight potential for damage if the fuel is outside the PCM's adjustment parameters. At this point I would recommend filling the tank up with the recommended fuel or using an octane booster as suggested by others. You need to buy more than 1 because the octane boosters effect is minimal in small quantities.
It wont mess it up. Go ahead and drive it. when you get down a ways on the gas, just fill it up with the 91 octane.
Go buy some octane boost and add it to the gasoline. This will help keep things smooth. Any auto store will have it. It comes in a small bottle for about $5.
Most cars have no need for the higher octane. Check with the Audi folks and see why you need the other?
The computer can adapt timing a bit, but performance will suffer. it's still easier to throw in a bottle of octane booster.
Just drive it with a light foot until you can add premium. It is important to use a Top Tier fuel with the correct additives along with the correct octane. Bing "top tier fuel" to understand what it is.
Fill up with premium and go easy on the gas pedal until it's gone
Go to the auto store and get a bottle of octane booster to add to the gas tank.
So bail the wrong fuel out of the tank by removing the side filler tube.
So i have a audi 4 door 2008 and it uses 91 and i put 87 can my car mess up?!! This is the first time i ever put that gas in the car! Would it mess up on the first time? What can i do?
Your warranty is now void
it will be fine
