The Generac 6000CP has a low oil pressure sensor which shuts down the engine---maybe yours has this also. If the sensor has gone bad or if the oil pressure is really low this might cause the shutoffs. I would find the sensor and figure out whether this is the cause.
ALSO check the spark plug wire----it the connection is loose the spark might be lost for a short time and shut the engine off.
Thanks guys, new spark plug didn't do it, but I'm going to keep going. I'll check the wiring, change the oil completely and see if water might have got in it. After that I'll check the sensor.
The only bad thing is it was my grandpas before he passed. I found the manual online but it does not go into detail too much.
Have you you checked what ever makes the spark? Try cranking the engine right after it dies and see if you get a spark to the spark plug. If it is electronic, the ignition module may be failing when it gets hot. The coil may be failing when it gets hot.
The plug could be it. Water in the fuel tank, drain and dry out your fuel tank and then your carb.. A bad ign coil. If it does have a low oil shutdown, your oil could have water in it and the froth could be fooling the sensor or just a bad sensor.
Alright. The "mechanic" told me I had low oil. That was a lie. I'm not that incompetent.
Anyway, my Generac 3000psi washer will shut off ten minutes into spraying then cut off every 1-2 minutes after that if I keep trying it. Here's what I have done that has not fixed the problem:
-Loosen gas cap for air flow
-Cleaned spark plug
-New gas in tank
-Flow from tank to carb
-Cleaned carb
-Cleaned air filter
I have to believe it is caused from a heat issue. It would explain why it only shuts down when reaching a certain temperature. IF that's the case, what else should I check?
Would bad spark plug keep it from running even though it will run fine for 10 minutes after cooling off? thank you.
