The fuel float inside the gas tank is stuck!
You may find that you will be able to gain access to the fuel sender unit (float) under the rear passenger seat there should be an access panel, if there is lift it out of the way and just remove the electrical connector plug that you see there and see if the fuel gauge needle goes down if it does, it may well be the sender unit at fault, if the needle stays on the full up reading then the problem lies with the gauge
bad earth at sender unit.
Unless you are prepared to start accessing and getting inside the fuel tank then you may as well take it to a garage
I have a 2002 Seat Ibiza. I filled up on Friday and it is Thursday now and I still apparantly have a perfectly full tank of petrol. I've never had any problems of this nature before and I've had the car for about 8-9 months. A quick google search suggested that the problem may be that the float is stuck or something to do with the earth wire...? I'm nowhere near an expert with cars (it took me months to work out how to open my bonnet) but is there anything I can do to fix this myself? I don't want to go to the garage if they're going to charge me a bomb for a quick fix. Thanks.
