Oil light: Does this sound serious?

So a real answer is this. Yes definelty check the oil level if you have not already.

If oil level is ok more thank likely it is just the oil pressure sensor. There are usually very close to the oil pan and are very common items to go bad.

If the oils pressure sensor is bad it will light up your oil light. If it was not actually pumping oil you would be long siezed up by now

So your oil light came on and you didn't even bother to check your oil?

*Shakes head*

When your smoke alarm goes off, do you just stay in bed and hope your house doesn't burn to the ground?

CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL!

Again.

CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL!

Or, just run it low/dry and buy a new car when it seizes up.

I suggest you check the oil / oil filter, and replace or top up if necessary. An emissions test does not check the oil. It can become serious if you ignore it (completely wreck the engine)

thats not a check your oil light, thats an inadequate oil pressure light. enjoy

check your oil level

Maybe he will

Ok I have a toyota tercel 1991 DX and recently this morning, and driving this after I left my house the check oil light came on a small amount of times and stopped after like 20 seconds of driving. Is something actually wrong? It never showed back up driving to the bank after those twenty seconds I even had an emissions test the day before and it passed with flying colors. ...Or would an emissions test likely not pick this up?
