Need help!?

Remove all the spark plugs and crank it over a few times to get the water out, put new plugs in, do an oil change, remove the distributor cap and dry out the cap and inside the distributor housing very thoroughly with a hair dryer. Start and drive. You may have to repeat the distributor and cap a couple times as water boils out of the housing.

well if you did suck in water(mud) and sucked it into the intake that's very bad. dirt in the valves will cause imperfections in the valve seat. if it just water take out the spark plugs and disengage the fuel (fuse) turn over and the water will be forced out the spark plug holes. don't know how deep the water (mud) was and you might have to change fluids. check air filter to see if it is wet first start here first. water mud or antifreeze does not compress like fuel and air. term called hydro-lock because the piston can not compress liquid

If mud got into the engine then it'll act like sand paper and scratch and gouge the cylinder walls. You'll ruin the engine if you continue trying to start it. However, if it were merely water, remove the plugs and crank the engine. Any residual water that made its way into the oil pan will boil out when you run the engine.

For my money, with the possibility of mud, sand or other grit in the engine - a complete teardown is in order.

Next time you go "Mudding" use your head.

Remove all the spark plugs and crank the engine over, this will remove the liquid from the cylinders, if you don't you risk collapsing a piston or bending a connecting rod, provided you haven't already done so by trying to start it already,

I took my toyota 4runner, 1991, mudding and got stuck. Long story short it choked out and died and now won't crank. Yesterday I had a friend tell me it just sucked water in through the air intake and it should be fine, just to clean it out and let it spit out all the mud on its own, On the other hand I had my stepdad say thats not right and so on and so forth.

There's basically a bunch of quack mechanics trying to help me and I need a REAL mechanics opinion.
