My trucks transmission fluid is dirty what should I do?

Do a transmission flush. As I mentioned in my comment above Mr Hyde is wrong.

It is a common myth that the transmission flush will damage your car The difference is with a transmission flush you're more likely to see the problem (that WOULD have rose up eventually) because it was flushed and thus any crap that was there before would now show up quicker after a flush

But if your car is in good condition...there is nothing wrong with a transmission flush. It is a myth. It is like these morons who say to change your oil every 3,000 miles

Wrong completely. That myth is also around. Oil has been upgraded for a century already. You don't have to change your oil ever 3,000 miles. It is usually after a certain amount of miles (which is far more than 3,000 btw)

5,000-10,000 or 6 months.

Drop the pan and clean it out. Install new filter and gasket. Use B&M Trick Shift and one bottle of Lucas Oil Trans Fix. I have done this before and it works well. You will get thousands of more miles out of your trans. If you have it flushed you will get a hundred or so. Don't listen to hacks like Yeman Lol.

"I constantly hear consumer, customers and technicians debate as to whether transmission flush procedures can be harmful to a vehicle and is a transmission flush good or bad for your automobile. While many mechanics and experts agree that having a clean transmission will extend the life of a transmission, it is thought by some that the flushing procedure may not be the best way to achieve a clean transmission. One common thought is that the process, which forces liquid back into the transmission in the opposite way of the normal fluid flow, could potentially damage components or block tight passageways. When fluid is forcefully pushed back into the transmission, chunks of debris can be dislodged and possibly block narrow channels or one-way valves. When new fluid is put back in, these blockages can inhibit the normal flow of fluid through the transmission causing lubrication issues."

Do not do a transmission flush. That will stir up debris and make matters worse.

You did not mention the make, model, year or mileage.

Best from what I hear is do a simple drain and refill, and change the filter. Then do a follow up drain and refill after a few thousand miles to get more of the bad fluid out.

That is all I can say without know more details.

There are two theories.....techs will tell you that once the fluid is cooked that the tranny is toast anyway, and changing it will just dislodge debris in the tranny making things worse.

Others will say change it.

I am in the others camp.

Just change the fluid and filter. DO NOT FLUSH it. that will loosen up all kinds of stuff you dont want.

alright I took my truck to a shop to get my transmission checked out and the transmission shifts real hard and downshifts real hard....they looked at the fluid and said its dirty as heck which when I looked at it yeah its pretty brown....not good...my options are either to just flush the transmission fluid out.....or I can keep the fluid and just drive it until the tranny gives out ...any body shed any light im only 16 don't know a whole lot about cars and ive gotta pay for it all myself please help me out thanks matt...
