Auto finance is what I do for a living and I'm guessing this was a used car.

Used cars are sold "As is" and unless you purchased a extended warranty when you bought it your out of luck period.

Dealers have no legal obligation without something in writing to do anything to a used car once you drive it off the dealers lot.

Good luck.

If this was a used car, you bought it "as is", which means you assume responsibility for any problems the car may have. If it has a warranty that covers engine failure, then get it fixed under warranty. If no warranty, you pay to have it repaired. There is a risk in buying any used vehicle.

This is another example of why you should have a mechanic YOU KNOW check it out prior to laying down cash for a clunker. Its a bitter pill to swallow when you find you have been screwed.

Did the sticker on the window have a "checkmark" in the box next to "sold as is?"

Most used cars are sold 'As is' unless it specifically states that there is a warranty. That's why everyone advises having a mechanic look over a used car before buying it. You have no legal right to have someone else pay to fix your car if there is no warranty. The only exception might be if there was a known problem that the dealer did not disclose or concealed before the sale, but that would be just about impossible to prove.

If the car has a warranty they should, If the car had no warranty they wont.
