OR you could try bypassing the safety switch and start it that way, but then you disable the safety feature that prevents you from starting the car while in gear, which can also cause an accident.
Hope this helps.

Just because the lights come on...does not mean the battery has enough juice to actually start the car. If the transmission is jammed...that would prevent the car from starting. Sensors can wreak havoc as well.
Does HE know the make, model and year?
If so, take it to where he works after jumping the starter relay or solenoid.
when it starts, make sure there is a driver in the car with her foot on the brake, then go to his work. the one who's a mechanic,
Get a repair order written to fix it.
Then have mom inform him she is taking his car home and dinner will be waiting. so there! Or drive her home yourself.
He can replace or adjust a switch for strangers, why not your mom?
She is not an obstinate female canine is she?
Neutral safety switch needs adjustment.
try park and neutral. if it works that way, replace the neutral safety switch.
probably.. Don't act surprised !!
The engine won't crank, the lights come on and everything and I know the batterys ok. It's got plenty of gas, but one feature about this car is it won't start unless it's in park. Sometimes she has to shift to reverse, then back to park (with some force, mind you. Practically has to slam the damn thing) and it starts. My father-in-law is a mechanic and I told my husband about the trouble with the car and he claims it's a wiring issue where the car doesn't recognise it's in the right gear to start. Is he right?
