Besides still worrying about getting your car fixed on the cheap, you should be reporting him to the proper authorities so he can be stopped.
Jeepers man, the strut bearings WILL be loose till the weight of the car compresses them.
are you being scammed, cause thats what it sounds like, your purchasing new parts for your vehicle to have fitted although this mechanic seems that he is stealing ur parts and not fitting them. this does not make sense. you need to mark your new parts.
"I need to fix this car badly" Well it sounds like you have taken it to the correct place to do that.
now you know why he's cheap
I trusted this guy a lot, he usually gives me the best rate. I have window shopped everywhere and he still beats em all in price.
Lately I brought some parts to him so he could fix my suspensions. New struts and mounts, control arms, tie rod ends. He agreed to install everything for $400 while others would do only fronts for $750!
That day he could only install the rear struts because the front was not the right fit on my vehicle. I took the struts so I could get a refund from the seller and left the garage.
I found at night that one of my front strut mounts were not the KYB's I bought. The mount bearing was also not new and both parts had scratches etc. The bearing felt a bit loose and I could see a bit of grease from the inside when you wiggled the movable part of the bearing. I had no idea how to check the mount itself. Besides the superficial scratches the rest seemed okay?
This was evidently done in purpose. My only way to prove that this part is not mine is that I still have the other original KYB with me. I never took the used parts with me, the rear mounts was also not listed on the bill. Though I am not really that concerned about the rear mounts more than the fronts.
Questions
1. His rates are still the best around the area. What would you do if you were me? I am an international student with no income but I need to fix this car badly because its falling apart.
2. The mount bearing feels loose, is this normal? I am planning to sell it or just use it.
