Gently wiggle the key and the steering wheel. Try back and forth motions. Push it in slightly as you wiggle/slide back and forth, or even pull outwards, but gently. Make sure your transmission is in "P" (park) if automatic, or neutral if manual. Eventually it will come loose.
Spray silicone spray (not WD-40) on your key and slide it in and out a few times to lubricate the lock. Silicone spray will not attract dust/grime like other lubricants.
Of course silicone spray attracts dust and dirt. Wipe you hand across anything with silicone and you'll see dust.
The recommended lubes are powerded graphite or dry teflon spray. Teflon spray goes on wet, but the solvent evaporates and leaves powdered teflon.
Leaving your key in the ignition keeps the computer from shutting down and thus uses more battery overnight adding to your woes. It may have to be extracted professionally . Good luck.
1) get pliers
2) pull out the key
3) use lock lube
Make sure you have it on Park.
