If the dimmer switch will also kill the dash lights so you cannot see the speedo. Having the interior lights on, does not mean you will get stopped. People have a right to drive with the lights on. Nothing against the law about that...or have you forgot reading about it in your driver's training manual? Otherwise remove the bulb from the dome bulb holder...or tape a coffee cup from Tim Hortons over top.

If the dimmer doesn't do it, then one of the door switches is either broken or out of adjustment.
O.k., leaving them on, when you're not driving will likely drain your battery or cause a fire.
So, when the car is off, if nothing else works to turn the lights off, disconnect the battery cables, and keep the pliers or wrench that you used in the car, for wherever else you have to stop tomorrow, but as early as POSSIBLE, go by a parts place, and see if they can tell you what's wrong.
-Anytime you have electrical current still being maintained when an appliance or a part is supposed to be off, you could end up being in a life-threatening situation without even knowing it.
I like Auto Zone, because they open early, they do a lot of diagnostic stuff for free that other parts places -or, in your case, maybe even an electrical shop could really stick you for, AND usually on each shift throughout the day, they have at least 1 person available who has serious experience fixing cars, too, so you can have confidence in even their diagnostics that tools can't assess.
Be good about it, if AZ tells you the problem, go ahead and buy your parts from them, the world is give and take, and fixing the problem now could save you a LOT of money in the future.
