My door won't lock on a 97 honda civic?

Stop doing that.

Car door locks are NOT supposed to be manipulated when the door is open.

The door MUST be closed when you lock it.

That is to prevent people from locking their keys inside.

Cars are NOT supposed to allow you to slam lock the doors.

If you can, then the lock is not working right.

Close the door, and then lock them all with the key in the lock.

Take off the inner door panel and connect back the operating rod that slipped loose. If you need to see how it's supposed to look, go in the other door that still works and look at it's lock action.

Put a banana in the tailpipe or put ketchup in your gas tank

squirt some wd-40 down the pull up knob. if that doesn't work take off the door panel and lube all the metal parts that move in there..

Can you be more specific please?

HELP! My door won't lock, when the door is closed I can lock and unlock the car with the tab normal but when the door is open the lock becomes stiff and I can't push it to lock. When I pull the handle I can lock and unlock while the door is open. My car has no power locks everything is manually, what do I do?
