If you indeed find a disconnected VH you could re-connect it, if the hose is bad you could replace it, but locating the leaky hose will be the hardest. Don't be bashful in asking him for help, that is the best way to learn, have him show you rather than just fix the problem.
You hoover room with it..
That is odd. You get the code yet you don't say what it is. You are just telling us what AZ says the cause of the code is. You have a family member that knows cars yet you come on here. This doesn't even deserve an answer.
Post the code. Without knowing the code you're basically saying the clerk told you it was a bad bolt and you want us to tell you which bolt. Your car has probably 30 vacuum hoses.
ask your step dad to show you
My check engine light came on and i took it to autozone to run the code, they said it was my vacuum hose. What is a vacuum hose? they said that i could continue to drive without it ever being an issue that it's just bad for the environment. What is a vacuum hose, what does it do, and how do i repair it myself? My step dad is an excellent car enthusiast/ mechanic, he kind of does it as a hobby and literally built himself a car from parts so whatever needs to be done, i'm sure he can do it i just need to know what i need to ask him to do if that makes any sense.
