You were changing your oil? Check the dip stick. If overfilled by say over 1/2 quart it could cause some issues. A 1/4 I would just let it go.

If overfilled open the drain plug for few seconds then put back in. Pour into a clean container and you can put that extra oil back into the jug and use later.

What's the crankcase capacity in the specifications pages in the glove compartment manual? /or/ What's the year make snd model of her car?

Overfilling the engine will eventually ruin it! The crankshaft counter-weights will slap the oil to an air filled milkshake. When the oil pump forces air and oil to the frictional surfaces they will overheat and fail.

Drain the excess oil out before she drives it again.

A gallon is only 4-quarts Einstein.

If you're saying she dumped in a 5-qt bottle, then it's overfilled by 16-oz. Then again, did you put on a new filter? Some specs list addt'l oil when you add a new filter.

Check the owners manual for the number of quarts. It might take more than 4 quarts and you'll have to add some anyway. What car?

the 4.5 liter is the volume of air that the engine displaces, folks. if the oil level reads over, drain out enough to fix that.

I'd worry about you...your Mommy is changing your oil? She still do your diapers too?!!

depends on how much you need to put in the engine in the first place.

You should not work on cars if you can't tell how much oil to put in...........

you better drain it all and put the correct amount in, it can screw your motor up pretty fast

No.
