My car engine gets hot at idle and i think its because of the a/c?

If your hypothesis is that the "air pump is busted" . . . can you confirm by telling us that the AC doesn't work????

On most cars: there are two electric radiator fans: one that is controlled by engine coolant temp, and another that comes on when the AC is engaged. The alternative is one electric fan controlled by coolant temp and/or AC engagement.

The AC compressor not only puts an extra load on the engine (compensated-for with a circuit that increases idle speed), and, the AC condenser gives-off heat which puts a greater heating load on the radiator.

So . . . you could have a bad AC compressor, a bad fan or bad fan controls, or a normal engine/radiator cooling problem.

Check your antifreeze level first then try to look by the termostat housing for a bleeder valve with the engine running loosen that to check if water is even flowing it should have a steady stream coming from that if it's working properly. May just be a thermostat stuck closed.

Hi in most cases the power consumed by an air conditioning pump is usually no more than 3-4 bhp of the engines total output power so not a likely cause of your problems.so time to get it checked out by a dealer of the make of your car.

A/C GOING HOT AT IDLE IS CAUSED BY THE SUCTION PRESSURE RISING WHICH COULD BE CAUSED BY A VALVE PROBLEM IN THE COMPRESSOR, FREON BEING ADDED AND AIR IN SYSTEM, TOO MUCH FREON, EXPANSION OR ORFICE TUBE PROBLEM, AND THE HEAT PROBLEM IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND NOT RELATED TO THE A/C, STOPPED UP RADIATOR, STUCK THERMASTAT, IMPELLER BLADES ROTTED OFF OF WATER PUMP, NOT ENOUGH COOLANT, (CANNOT HAVE WATER ONLY) HEAD GASKET, COOLING FAN OR FANS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, GOOD LUCK

How about having someone that knows what they are doing diagnose your overheating problem before you ruin the headgaskets?! Messing around in the dark guessing is not the way to handle this serious problem that will end up with you taking the bus!!!

do away with the air-con pump by refiting a shorter belt not attaching the air-con itself. useing air-con lacks in power and uses excessive fuel.

ok, heres the facts:

my ac goes warm if im not driving around

my cars engine thermometer goes into the red if i just idle with or without the ac on, but it goes to red faster

when i changed the belt going to the ac, it initially kept sliding and seemed but turned out to be very tight.

My hypothesis: the AC compressor is busted and its putting too much strain on the engine when its idling which is making it heat up more.

if im wrong ,what do you think it is?
