Happened to me a few years ago, bad alternator!
I'm with Ryde, 0n, When your alternator is failing you run off the battery. The symptoms you describe are typical of this type of failure.
I believe your alternator is failing causing your truck to run off the power in that battery until the battery dies .
After being off for awhile the battery recovers enough to repeat the cycle again .
An alternator is $100.00 so if that's the problem , no big deal .
You'd be wise to check the battery cables and the wiring to the alternator too .
Also , check to be sure your belt and tensioner are good and that the belt is not slipping .
I would guess the starter is bad.
Now go out and clean the battery terminals and tighten then with a wrench. When you loose everything what else do you think it can be?
Okay so lately my 99 f-150 has been acting really weird and now it wont start. Last week when I was driving I lost power to all my electrical things like the radio, windows, dash light, rpm gauge, headlights and all. I could also feel the truck almost like bogging out and my battery gauge dropped in the negative then shot back up to normal. After I shut my truck off it wouldnt start back up, it was only making a clicking noise but the next day it started right up with no problems. I tried looking for the cause but couldnt find any problems so I drove like that for a week. Now the other day I was driving and it started losing power again so I hurried to drive home and once I got home it wouldnt start again. I jumped the truck and it started fine so I figured the battery was dead well I got the battery tested and it was 89% and just under 12v which should be perfectly fine to start the truck up so I started testing other things. I tried to arch the starter and all that happened was the starter made a whinning noise like I could hear it trying to start from the inside. Then I tried arching the starter solenoid and all I got was sparks. I tapped the starter and nothing. I also tried tapping the alternator housing and nothing to that either. Didnt try to jump it again because I didnt have anyone to jump me. But now I dont even get a clicking noise when I try to start it and still no power to anything. Today I am going to test the alternator and starter but I just dont feel like t
