The air filter housing blew? As in cracked or came apart? If you mean it is blowing compression back out the air filter housing, then I would suggest that you got one of several things. Possible timing chain break, broke rocker spring(s), bent pushrod(s), or incorrect timing. Good luck! Added detail - I agree with moocowman, it can and does happen. I have had some blow back compression and flames out the carb and actually catch on fire. Don't listen to the guy saying it can't happen. His elevator don't reach the top floor, or he is just misinformed. Again, good luck friend!

well iwas on highway loss power no fuel after acelleration got to rest area waited 5 min then tried to start and boomm airfilter blue off housing its home let rest over night it ran fine for like 3 min then engine shake and shutt off

i really doubt that the air filter housing blew. there is no possible way that will ever happen.

Yes, it could happen if your timing is off. if your fuel is igniting at the wrong time and intake valve is open, the combustion would go through your intake. Possible cause would be the distributor rotor being in the wrong position. Whatever holds the distributor gear in place may have broken, allowing the distributor rotor to move into the wrong position. Open the distributor cap and see if you can spin the rotor with your hand. If this happens, the distributor shaft or rotor has come loose. Replace the rotor or distributor, whichever is slipping. If the rotor doesn't spin with your hand, it may have slipped but still has enough tension to hold it in its position (wrong position). Remove the fuel injection fuse or relay to prevent the engine from dumping fuel into the cylinder. Hook up a timing light, have someone crank the engine and see if the ignition timing is way off.

Another cause could be the cam timing in relation to your crankshaft has jumped to the wrong position. This would be timing belt/chain, tensioner or guide failure. Compression test.
