My 94 civic is over heating I brought it to a shop and they can't find problem. No leaks new thromoatat and radiator

The car is 20 yrs old. Has cooling system been flushed and changed as maintenance schedule calls for? I bet not. The radiator needs to be looked at. Either rodded out or probably replaced. Water pumps don't wear out they start leaking. Do a cooling system pressure test. If it's not loosing pressure, it's probably radiator. When it overheats turn on heater if temp goes down it's radiator.

Simple test. Remove the radiator cap with the engine cold. Be sure the coolant is topped up. Start the engine. Carefully look down into the radiator, preferrably with eye protection on. If the coolant level rises and falls noticeably, you've either got a leak in a head gasket or a cracked cylinder head. If the coolant level remains unchanged with the car running and the cap off, it's a different problem. My next guess would be a clogged radiator or clogged coolant passages inside the engine. Go to a reputable shop and get coolant system flush to see if that fixes it.

You have a few things to look at yourself here. Pull out your spark plugs and check the ends. If they have alot of rust on one or more this means you have a head gasket leak. With ya car cold pull off the radiator cap and start car if you have alot of bubbles constantly blooping out you either have air in your system or a blown head gasket the same if you have oil slick in the coolant. If none of that is present you could probably rule out head gasket. Next I would be checking if your thermo fans on the radiator are working. Get the car up to temp and you should be able to see these and hear them kick in. If not then you need to check fuses and relays are working or the temp sensor that tells them to come on. If thats all good then it could be the fan itself. If they work then you probly need a system flush or the water pump needs replacing.

It may be a bad head gasket or the fan is not moving or you may need stonger antifreeze to not overheat,or possibly your radiator needs flushing with new antifreeze.

sometimes the water pump just wears out. passes smog?

Fan relay working? can you hear it running? there is a low fan and a hi fan when it is hotter.

try running the heater to add extra cooling to the motor.
