My 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo Z34 is blowing blue smoke?

When I first start my car it blue a puff of blue smoke and stops. What would be causing this. I belive it might be from the oil draining down.

Depending on the mileage it sounds like the valve seals are worn and letting oil drain from the rocker arm area in the head down into the cylinder. I believe you can change the seals without pulling the heads. I would get a manual and check it out if its bad enough. If the heads have over 100 thousand miles you might need to have the heads redone.

Yep, valve seals. It is old and tired.

It's an 18 year old car, I'm guessing it has at least 150,000 miles. If so, it's just a worn out engine. If it doesn't use much oil, i wouldn't worry about it. Maybe the next time you change oil you should use a heavier weight oil, it won't smoke as much.

P.S. I really wish people that ask questions like this would provide more information such as mileage, etc., I could give a better answer.

engine wear.
