My 1964 corvair wont stay running when key is turned back to run position?

I was working on radio left switch on for 1/2 hour. After that I tried to start car.Now it starts then dies when I let key back to run position.I changed switch still same.thanks LARRY

Does the car shut off or does it stall? There's a difference. Back in the early 70's I rebuilt a Corvair. I reinstalled the carburetors and started it. But it wouldn't stay running. I forgot to reconnect the cross pipe that connects the two carbs together (vacuum line). Yeah, mine would stall out IF I didn't keep hammering the gas pedal.

If this is not your problem then you may have an electrical issue such as a lose connector or plug. Since you changed the switch and still get the same results I'd suspect a wiring problem somewhere under the dash. Have you tested the generator? Or have you converted yours to an alternator? Changes in electrical wiring can have peculiar effects. Especially if you lost a ground connection somewhere.

Hope this helps.

If you have a test light or multimeter, check if there is juice at the positive terminal of the coil with the ignition at the starter and then the ignition position. You should get voltage on both. If none on the ignition position then check condition(resistance) of the coil ballast resistor. It could have burned out.

Just one possibility: Did you leave it in the accessory or run position. With an old style ignition system, in the run position the points are energized and can easily be burned (even fused) if left that way for a while.

Have your alternator checked

beware, the above looks like MALWARE !!!
