Those Chevy V8s were boss.
You may find that an original type engine will do better on gas when properly rebuilt and tuned. And that modern transmission may have an electronic sender for the speedometer.
Hi, It depends on what your after... econo go with the
v6.. originality rebuild what it has.. performance drop in a
big block and you well never look back..
good luck

It's a classic, man !! Build it to run & to show, & stuff the gas mileage....
It your car, build it like you want, I think you would like an over under transmission.http://www.gearvendors.com/
Personally, I would put a LS1 in it. You should be able to get slightly over 20 MPG on the highway.
A friend of mine has a old ford deuce coupe hot rod with one and he get's 27 on the highway with it.

i'm going to rebuild a 1967 chevy impala ss two door and i know that the millage on classics are terrible so i was wondering what millage this motor will give me along with new transmission.
I'm also going to cut about 600 pounds of weight by changing some parts with modern lighter parts.
just incase you're wondering the motor i linked is meant for 8000 pound trucks and the impala weights about 4000 but after cutting weight it will give me around 3400 pounds. Also considering impalas have a mpg of 18 city.
So i wanted some insight from you guys and find out if what i'm theorize will work or not.
