MGB AUTOMATIC KEEPS LEAKING FLUID, HOW CAN i STOP IT, IT HAS HAD NEW SEALS AND GASKETS BUT STILL LEAVES ......?

Confusing,

And difficult to diagnose without seeing/testing.

But there are clues,

the box oil isn't under pressure when stopped, so I'd be looking at possibly micro rust porosity in the sump pan,

box oil is very, very thin and will find and run through almost invisible holes.

Or the same type of fault in the torque converter..

I'd have the sump pan off, super cleaned inside and out, dried and inspected,

possibly then filled with thinners, which is a really thin fluid and sit and watch.

Hopefully a wet patch will appear!

People here are trying to help. Why shout at us?

Take it down to the garage. Put it on the lift.

Clean the box completely and dry it.

Now just sit and see where the leak is coming from.

Once you can see where the leak is then you can work out how to cure it.

Once it is covered in fluid you are wasting your time.

Some clean wiper paper will help when you are looking.

There is no magic wand to wave. It simply takes time to find the leak.

HI well as they always did this with the old 3 speed borg-warner automatic gearbox. i doubt if there is even a cure for it except putting a drip tray on the garage floor to catch it.

so time to be made aware having old sports cars has never been for the guy who was never prepared to do a lot of work himself.cars have evolved to be what we have today 90% electronic and less can be fiddled with so time to either sell it to a real enthusiast. or just put up with the mess.

not so straight forward. that box is normally ok unless seals gone. if gear box over filled? or internal issue .leaking gasket etc.

bet its leaking from bell housing section? ( same as mine -not an mg though)

try MG owners club forums or sites such as petrol heads.

can't see an oil cooler assisting a leak! from sound of it you have a leak but fluid not draining off onto floor until later. since temperature seems to be a factor..? may be seal or gasket related but an auto box specialist should be able to solve

SINCE BUYING MY 1971 MGB GT IT HAS HAD A CONSTANT LEAK FROM THE BOX AND 2 GARAGES HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

.

THE GEARBOX IS A BORG WARNER 35, ONE OF THE GARAGES REBUILT GEARS 3 AND REVERSE THEN REPLACED THE HOUSING WITH NEW SEALS ETC. THEY ASSUMED THAT ALL WAS WELL AFTER ALL THEY HAD THE CAR TO STOP THESE LEAKS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS THE LEAK HAS PERSISTED AND DISCHARGES CONSIDERABLE FLUID OVER THE GARAGE FLOOR DAYS AFTER IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN, IT HAS GONE BACK TO THE GARAGE AND IT SEEMS THEY ARE LOST ON THIS ONE AND DON'T HAVE A CLUE, THEY HAVE SUGGESTED PUTTING ON AN OIL COOLER FOR THE BOX BUT IT DOES NOT DISCHARGE FLUID WHEN IT IS HOT BUT WHEN IT IS PARKED UP.

ANY IDEA PLEASE?
