I don't know what "stop slick" is - - - if a transmission additive: am not aware of any that are beneficial: if transmission parts are worn, nothing you put in will renew them. Wish we knew how many miles are on the car so we could say that failure at this point is normal or not.
Hi cruise control like automatic transmission saves the engine and transmission from being abused actually.
it is good because the mechanics is controlled by a computer and not a human being. automation is coming into getting from a to b. that is the future taking the driver out of the driving seat.
so the automatic transmission and cruise control are a half way step in this direction. engines last longer and sso do gearboxes as it changes gear at the exact right moment. so less likely to do damage.
so i would guess you where told this load of old nonsense from some snotty nose kid who knows nothing about engineering and cars.
typical thinks the only person who can drive is a man. well girl time to not listen. one day he will be stuck under a car which he has personally wrecked down to his bad driving, like a burnt out clutch.
Cruise control didn't cause any problem. But "stop slick" will. Have a competent shop - not jiffy lube - drain and refill your auto trans, drop the pan and change filter. DON'T do a flush! It circulates gunk and doesn't clean the filter or magnet [if so equipped] Use the EXACT trans fluid spec'd by your mfg. For example Chrysler requires ATF+4, Honda has a specific fluid, Mercon for Ford as do most makes nowadays. Don't let them BS you by telling you they have the additives. It must be exact.
Using CC isn't bad for the tranny. There is no "wrong way" to turn off CC. Your transmission is shot but it's nothing to do with the CC.
What kind of vehicle, year, model? I don't think there is a wrong way to turn off Cruise Control. With switch or usually off with ignition. To disengage use either switch or brake pedal.
Is this a manual trans? It sounds like clutch. Is this auto trans? I sounds like low on fluid.
More info on your car would be helpful, but I am not convinced you have a trans problem. Small engines thrive on rpm's for power, so 20 mph and 4k on the tach could be within reason.
I'm afraid the people who say your transmission is shot are probably right, but it has nothing to do with the cruise control.
You do not need to turn off a cruise control ever. You tap on the brake pedal and that basically shuts it off. Your issue is the transmission nothing to do with the cruise control.
Cruise control will not harm the transmission.
It is either engaged or not.
If it is on ready to engage then that is not an issue.
I suspect your transmission is shot not your cruise control.
Cruise control makes no difference to tranny unless we keep it locked in wrong gears etc,
Have it checked out.. We have checked our fluid levels?
Well I just found out I've been turning my CC off the wrong way for a good 9,000 miles now.
Now my car sometimes slips gears and has trouble accelerating. When I accelerate my speedometer does not go up but the RPMs do. From a stop I hit the gas and I'll be doing 20mph but my RPMs will shoot up to 4. Shortly after it'll go back to normal.
These problems do not occur every time I drive.
Also, I just put 'stop slick' in and that has helped the gear slippage.
There is no "wrong way" to turn off the CC.
The trans is shot.
