It could be that they had to replace an exhaust-mounted oxygen sensor, and that the exhaust was so rusted that changing the sensor caused enough upset for the holes to appear (not the garage's fault - unlikely they could have prevented it).
Shop around for a replacement exhaust.
Some coincidence! And the engine light was still on? Find another shop.
The dealer of the car is the only place who can tell you the *exact cause of a check engine light. Ask them to examine your exhaust system to see if it has been manually damaged!
Country Boy is on the ball. The garage you went to are greasy crooks. Take it to the dealership garage.
I just recently dropped my car into the garage because it had a check engine light with nothing else seemingly being wrong with it.
When i collected the car the check engine light was on but a very loud noise was coming from the exhaust which was not there before i dropped it into the garage.
The noise was so bad i had to bring the car back to the garage only for them to say that there was holes in my exhaust and it needs replacing.
Is this a known scam or is it just coincidental??
