Is there any down side to getting a full sized spare tire for your car?

There's nothing wrong with being prepared, If you have the room/space to have it in your vehicle then do it if you can get it for a bargain, Junk yards work but bring someone with you that knows tires because rubber can degrade and dry out and it won't do you very good to have a tire that will shred on you.

However, it's really all about the tube, unless you have a full blow out, most flats can be fixed with a 30/50 bucks within an hour. The chances of you having a full blow out are minimal if your tires are in good shape and you drive decently.

I'd always advise you to put road side assistance on your insurance if you're going to do a lot of traveling and you aren't on the road handy and may need a tow. You can remove it later, it doesn't cost that much extra.

As others have said, the only downside is the extra space needed. If that doesn't bother you, I'd certainly go ahead, I did. I went to our local scrapyard, they'd had an identical model in with serious front end damage but the rear was completely intact, including two nearly new tires on perfect wheels. One now sits in the back of my car.

The only thing I'd counsel is, if you have a flat and swap wheels then get the flat fixed asap otherwise you won't have anything in reserve if you have another.

Since its an accord you don't have to worry about vicious clutches as you would an all wheel drive. I don't care what the others say about the same size tire as the manufacturer can say its the same size and be inches off. Mickey Thompson Baja claws that are suppose to 35 inches are only 33 inches tall. In that small of a tire the worst thing you would run into is a slight pull if it was on the front. Let the haters speak on this lol

1st thing I do when I get another car.ONLY downside is where to put it, often won't fit in space-saver well. Go to wrecking yard, find same make, similar year/model. Tread wear won't matter as long as it's the same size tire.

The full sized tire just takes up more room. It is difficult to store. The tires should be the same diameter. but the amount of difference from wear should be minimal. If you get one from a junk yard, just make sure that it did not get bent . but it should work as well as the rest of tires on your Accord

The only down side to a full size spare is having room to store it in the car, otherwise it is better than the donut space saver tires. Find one that looks good and holds air. Any major wear means the tire can be easily punctured. You can find some good tires on rims.

down side to a full size

I am going to be doing some very long distance driving in my old Accord and was thinking about getting a full sized spare tire so that if I have a flat, I can just throw the spare on and not worry about it until I get home. Assuming I have to use it, Is there anything bad about having 1 tire with uneven wear like that? Also what's the best way to get one, just a junk yard or something? Should I get a new one or one that just looks "okay"?
