Is revving my engine on cold mornings bad?

ALL cars have a choke. If you do not have a MANUAL choke then it is automatic and the regulator needs cleaning as it is sticking. In the mean time yes reving it lightly to 1K is ok.

Proper maintainance twice a year would AVOID you needing to do these things at the wrong time. End of spring and end of autumn (fall for you Ammis) you should prep your car for the comming weather. NOT at the last minute. Then you don't have to work in the cold and snow or sit without a car in the summer while it is being repaired.

Why not get a manual choke kit. It is basically a pull out knob with a wire that attaches to your carb and holds it in a revved position long enough to allow it to warm up and run. you're basically doing the same thing with your petal, but you won't over rev. I have a '69 spitfire and any time I start it, I have to pull put the choke knob. Normally, mine will pull itself back in as it begins to idle warm and idle correctly, but I can always push it in when the car is running smoothly.

1000 RPM is not that far off what it would run at if you had the choke installed. Don't worry about it but don't do it until the oil pressure is up.

I don't really know if revving it in the cold is bad? But just don't rev it because you car needs to warm up on its own. So don't push your car to get warm.

So here is the deal I have an older car with a 350 sbc and it doesn't have a choke it's 17 today I got it started but I have to hold the gas to 1000 rpm for about 30 seconds give or take depending how cold then it idles on it's own is this bad?
