Is my car not starting in the cold because of the battery?

More than likely the battery is done - if it has been installed for more than 3-4 yrs it is a good bet. Yes if it jumps off of another car and starts just fine then starts again a little later (after it is warmed and fully charged) then the next cold morning fails- very good bet it is on it's last legs. Checking you charging system is a good idea and only takes a minute - most shops will do that before putting in a battery anyway - just so you aren't throwing a good battery in only to find out it was not the issue.

You should be able to tell if the block heater is working, the engine block should be slightly warm to the touch.

If the battery is getting weak if will be more affected by the cold, not have as much cranking power, and a cold engine is where you need that the most.

90% it's the battery getting old.

Hello

If the only difference is that you used the block heater? Either it took to much power to run it and the battery did not get Re-Charged. I would get the battery checked

You battery is not getting old it has died. Replace it.

Alright, I ha e a 2005 dodge neon that is trying to but will not turn over. It is about 3 degrees Fahrenheit here. I plugged my cars block heater in after driving it yesterday and went to start it today and it just won't turn over. I haven't used the block heater yet this year until I plugged it in last night. Do you think the block heater is bad? Or is it likely my battery is too cold? Also, if I get my car jumped and it starts, does that mean that my car battery was the issue and I should replace it? Thank you!!
