Is my air filter dirty?

I can see lights coming through but is it dirty enough to be changed?

It is hard telling. It is discolored but color has nothing to do with the resistance to air flow that the filter provides. If light goes through it, obviously the pores are not all clogged. If you went to the trouble of taking the old one out, you probably might as well replace it. A decent one should be less than $20. With a dirty air filter on a computer controlled engine, you can not damage the engine or decrease the fuel mileage. You only loose power since the amount of fuel burned is directly proportional to the amount of air available.

Quality air filters incorporate nano-fiber technology. I use a superior product that has greater capacity that others may claim. The way filters are evaluated is by their efficiency. In other words, the amount of air flow : the amount contaminants in holds. Changing the filters, ie. air & oil at every oil change is the only way to do proper car maintenance no matter what they look like.

This way past the point of needing change. Most people go by miles or months depending on the environmental conditions where the is operated. This is cheap. Do not attempt to extend the life of the filter. Not worth the possible complications. Go once a year. Cannot go wrong with that.

looks ready to be changed
