Buying a used car (maybe new) will cost a lot more then getting your Impala fixed. You can't buy a quality used car for $2500, $3000, or even $4000 usually without needing some kind of repair(s) usually. Or the used car has high miles and doesn't need repairs yet but will soon. You need to spend at least $10k for a good used car without needing any repairs (my Dad told me this).
Besides the repairs your Impala needs now is it worth it? Has your Impala been reliable where getting it repaired is the way to go? If this car has been needing lots of repairs constantly you might want to consider getting another vehicle. If you don't have the money to spend on new or used vehicle then get the Impala fixed and keep driving it until you have money.
Is a mechanic telling you it needs a new intake valve????And if so, how did he determine that???
Intake valves don't normally wear out, so what happened to it????
I would get some more estimates from OTHER mechanics before going ahead with the repairs.
P.S. If the body and interior are in real good condition, fix it. Otherwise dump it.
depends? do you like the car? all cars need work and repairs sooner or later. this car you already have and know what it needs and what its like and how it has been taken care of etc.. if you like the car ..i would say just fix it.. or you could buy something else and have it cost a fortune for repairs that you didnt know about.
Why not it is not an old car.
Formula is right, whatever you buy it might be worse.
So I have a 2009 Chevy Impala LS with 117,000 miles (worth about $5-7 thousand dollars) that needs a new intake valve and a couple other things replaced (about a $2500 fix). Would it be worth it to fix my car or should I start looking for a new one? If so, any suggestions on a new car. Thanks!
