Is it worth it to rebuild a head gasket on a 2001 jetta vr6?

Absolutely, have the cylinder head checked for flatness at an engine rebuilding shop. They'll re-machine it flat if it needs it before changing the head-gasket.

You don't have the money to buy another car so invest what you need to fix what you have.

Once a VW, Audi, BMW get over 100K miles, they're nothing but trouble and really huge repair bills. Everyone I know who's owned one said they'd never keep it beyond that point.

well you owe 1900 so either repair or let the 1900 go down the toilet letting the car sit there like a boat anchor

Not really. Toss it if I were you.

So unfortunately, I am in a bit of a pickle. I bought my first car which is a 01 jetta vr6, 100k miles.(yes I took out a loan, no I didn't have anyone to help me buy it, I work two jobs and really needed a car so I did what I had to. still owe 1,900 on it) The engine gave out; there is no compression and needs a new timing belt and head rebuild. at first I was just going to try to trade it in and get something else but I thought it might be worth it to just fix it rather than be in the hole another 5-10k for a newer vehicle plus my insurance would go through the roof because I am under 25......

I took it to 3 mechanics and the most trusted one as well as the most cost effective one quoted me around 1800 to do the job. Now, I have the money but not the EXTRA money. so anyone that knows car, is this a good idea to go through with? getting it fixed? I will have a warrantee on the work being done. I'm just in need of some constructive advice because I don't have anyone knowledgeable around me for guidance I guess so I must resort to yahoo answers, ha. Thanks in advance.
