Your choice of R143A is a bad one. First off it is not made for systems like in a car which use low side pressures of 40lbs. This gas works best at 65lbs which would kill your cars engine and compressor. It is also flammable which would not be a good thing if you are involved in a accident. It is also corrosive to the metal parts in the system. R134A would be a much better choice. The sealant with the Freon would be another wise choice. If nothing else when the sealant leaks out it will leave a stain so you can see where the leak is. You might want to also add compressor oil in the system because if the Freon leaks out so does the oil. You replace one without the other and you will kill the compressor real quick.

1998 Ford Escort. My car's A/C has had multiple leaks for a couple years now and has been empty and unused since. I'm driving down to Atlanta, GA, and would like to have at least some A/C for the drive down there. The last time I had the system fixed, it lasted for a week until it all leaked out.
If I have every intention of keeping the car running for another few years, but no intention of ever fixing the A/C system because of how expensive it would be, am I going to do any damage to the car (or the compressor) if I just go and fill the system up with a can of R-134a, maybe with the sealant added in, like you can get from an Autozone?
