Is it safe to drive my car 900 miles to Florida?

To be safe you can just have a trusted mechanic look over the car for any potential issues.

My cousin had a 04 Sentra I believe a few years ago. She traveled across the state many times and the car had 120k by the time she decided to buy a new car. Nothing was wrong mechanically, it was just rusty. She was driving that car daily until she got the keys to the new car. And she treated that car like crap too. Her new car had 15,000 miles but only 1 5000 mile oil change lol.

As long as you make regular pit stops for gas and bathroom breaks and have a fair amount of cash on you, it's possible

Hope this helps! :)

Well if I could see the car, I could tell you. Take it into a shop have them do a look over.

You say your mechanic says it OK, I have an '03 Ford Ranger I would check the oil and go anywhere in it. It has 130,000 miles on it...

I too am a mechanic and if you take care of it ... it will take car of you... and KY to FL isn't really a Marathon

A couple of years ago I drove my 1996 Nissan maxima down to Key West from Connecticut. It had over 250,000 miles on it. I stayed for a month and drove all over the keys- miami area then drove home with no issues.

some people have over a million miles on their old cars. 64,000 is just broken in.

You could get 250,000 or more miles on that car if you keep up with the repairs and change the oil with a good brand.. such as Castrol.

Check the belts, hoses, tires, brakes, battery, lights, fluid levels and go.

But this business about "drive" you should review what that really means in the state statutes. That's a commercial activity which the transportation code fines people for. Police and courts play a game of trying to apply "driving","operating", "vehicles" to all people using the public road, not just commercial. "secrets the police don't want you to know" is a good video to watch on youtube

I would not hesitate a minute to drive it 900 miles. You did not say why your mom doesn't think it would make it. A car with only 64,000 on it that has been properly maintained should not have any problems, especially if you take it easy and keep the speed down and check the oil every time you get gas.

Very cautiously and patiently.

I have a 2004 nissan sentra that has 64,000 miles on it. I religiously change the oil when it needs to be changed and I'm willing to get new tires and whatever else that needs to be replaced before the drive. I recently had work on it, and it now is perfectly fine (according to the mechanic). My issue is that my mom doesn't think it can make the drive from Kentucky to Florida. I have been mostly putting interstate miles on it since I got it a year ago, and it seems fine. I never drive more than 70 miles on the interstate in one drive though. Any thoughts?
