Is it possible to install a push button ignition on a car with a key?

You can buy a push button starter kit from a lot of auto parts stores. Instructions for installing it are included.

I put one in my car but I still have to turn the key on and then I can push the button or finish turning the key to start the car. The button is more of a conversation piece than anything else.

You will also still need to use your key in the ignition. Your car ignition will be locked and you won't be able to turn the wheel unless they also bypass the ignition lock as well. Then there is the factory alarm in the vehicle depending on year. It still needs the key in the ignition to read the key chip so the car doesn't think it is being stolen. It can be done but there are a lot of variables that need to be addressed and bypasses to be done for everything to work right. I don't know the cost but I have seen them installed in older cars and it won't be cheap bypassing everything plus the actual labor to install the button to starter and wiring and the cost of the push button

You'll need a pushbutton switch and a relay. The circuit should be able to lock the relay on until the power is turned off at the keyswitch.

Let me put it this way: You would not need to the ask question if you already had the skill set to do this yourself. However, the dealer is probably the worse place to go because of expense. Check with a good car audio dealer and have them give you an estimate for converting it over. In the "old" days, it was just a matter of installing a couple of switches, but with newer cars it is more involved.

Here is a US News article to encourage you:

i was wondering if it was possible to switch it from a car that needs a key to start to a push button starter. If it is, should i go to a Toyota dealership and have them install it or should i learn to do it myself.

Thank you
