Is it harmful for an engine to be used once a week?

Using it once a week presents no problems. You don't have to start it daily or anything like that. The more you use it the faster it will wear out. Don't take this to mean that you want to leave it sitting for a couple of years so as to not get any wear and tear. This can lead to other problems.

You don't mention the make, model or year of car. In my experience, with new cars ,spare use doesn't result in issues. Even the batteries aren't much problem. However, on older vintage cars, I find that the more they sit, the more problems crop up. They like to be driven.

My experience is in German cars. Older Benzes, Porsche's, BMW's and such and whenever I let cars sit too much, problems occur and I find myself doing more maintenance than if I just drive the cars constantly. Another thing to consider, when you let a car sit for long periods of time, all the oil drops to the oil pan. 90% of an engines wear and tear no matter the age, is on start up because that's when the majority of the oil is in the pan and not in the engine. Next time you do an oil change, let it sit overnight with a smaller empty pan or cup under the plug hole and you will see just how much more oil drains. So imagine a week. If you try this experiment make sure to tape a big note to your steering wheel so that you don't inadvertently try to start the car the next day.

Right now we are probably only doing about 2000 miles in a year although I don't use it just once a week. The battery might suffer if you are only going short distances per week - and I tend to think cars like to have a 'good blow out' occasionally,

I've not noticed ay deterioration in my car(s) since we retired and stopped working. It is said that aeroplane engines should never go 'cold' which is why they like to get a quick turn round at airports.

The main thing is that when you drive it, to drive it long enough to get the engine oil up to working temperture.

i dont think it can be a problem. it good though

I have a car in excellent mechanical condition.

I maintain it as scheduled according to service intervals of the owner's manual.

BUT.....

I usually drive it just one day a week or maybe one day in two weeks.

It's mileage will increase by 2000 miles every year.

Now my question is that:

Is this way of using my car makes it endure longer or shorter?

Is it better for a car to be driven every day (even when it is not needed) or to be used just when it is needed?

Should I drive it more?

How many times a week should an engine run in order to remain in good condition?

Please give me some advice.

I just want my engine to endure as long as possible.
