Is aamco transmissions known to be a ripoff?

AAMCO in MOST CITIES as a great outfit, but it depends upon the SKILL LEVELS and equipment at YOUR SITE! AAMCO was investigated by good old UNCLE A|SAM and proved to be straight forward and DOKEY DOKEY! PLEASE mention CAR TYPE< year, mileage COUNTRY of ORIGIN< engine size, and TRANS TYPE! There are LOTS of different pones out there! Most AAMCOs have the RIGHT testing gear but some are not savvy about PROPER TRANS FLUID TYPES! You are lucky to have a WARRANTY< and they should assume responsibility for your issues NOW! get a LEMON LAW LAWYER! I use them ALL THE TIME. You can check with the local BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU as BAD companies get REPORTED! They are ALL different, just like all WALmarts are different! AMMCO people have to pass EXAMS to stay in business. ALL CITIES Are different! It depends upon TRAINING and MANAGEMENT as well! GOOD LUCK TO Y'ALL!

Usually those hole in the wall joints that rebuild trannys tend to use cheaper parts & labor. I would go elsewhere & have a different shop do it. Pretty much all transmissions have a year warranty on them. Even GM's SRTA's which are rebuilt transmissions. Not sure if they last any longer or not

May have, but more have had positive experiences. Many things can go wrong with a transmission, not the least of it is. How one drives. There are also lemons, and independents that try to stretch that buck a little to far. You will find that any business that has been around for a while have those that hate it and those that love it. They don't make it this long by ripping off their customers.

depends on the owner. I'm in the business with independent shop I know three owners of aamco franchises one of which I don't know how he stays in business the other two are honest and we get along with them fine

You will pay a premium at AAMCO. Try to find an independent shop in your area.

What are the choices? Not many independent auto transmission places left . . . you can buy a used unit from a junkyard, go to the dealer and pay $8000, or go to AAMCO. I only had them rebuild one - and it was a good job at fair price.

I bought a used car in early March that had a newly rebuilt transmission. As of today, the transmission is only a little over a year old and just a few days ago it went out and now they want a large amount of money to take it apart, look at it and rebuild it AGAIN! I feel like if this was a good company that knew what they were doing then why would it have gone out so soon? Was it done as a temporary fix to ensure we'd return to have it fixed for so much money again?

Has anyone else had a bad experience with this company?
