I've put 5w 30 in my vauxhall zafira last night then today discovered it should have been 5w40. Should I oil change

Don't get panicked by Stpaulguy. The viscosity ranges are advisory to a great extent. If you looked in the original handbook it will show the range of ambient temperatures for different viscosities. I can guarantee that 5w-30 will be there. What I will say though is that next time you change the oil use fully synthetic. This stuff does everything better than mineral oil. Tesco and Asda sell it for a good price.

Hi that will be fine till the next oil change.the difference is when the engine is cold at present being warm weather it will not be an issue.

so why worry about it. it reduces to the 5W viscosity when the engine gets hot anyway.

It'll be fine, Rose, that oil is one of the acceptable viscosities for it.

I'm surprised at how little the 3 answers really know about oil. The difference between the two oils is NOT how they behave when cold. It's how they behave when your engine is hot. And yes, you should change your oil..

unless you live in a part of the world that gets severe temperature ranges (high/low) then its not worth another oil change

It'll be fine.

Don't tell your car... And it will never know.
