I think the connection between my catalytic converter and exhaust is broken?

could be the pipe just pulled apart at a connection. if thats the case slip it back together and put a muffler type clamp on it. If its a broken weld, you need to get it rewelded. If the pipe between the converter and the muffler is bad, have someone weld a new section of pipe on it.

Take it to an independent muffler shop (not one of the muffler chains with the yellow signs) and ask them to weld the connection for you. Shouldn't cost more than $50.

Aside from welding, there's really no other method that will last.

Like the other guy said, find a muffler shop to weld it together. You need to have it welded.

look at it and see what is wrong with it.

ok

I have a 1998 Subaru Legacy, manual. While driving home from college i stopped at a rest stop to use the bathroom and when i started the car back up again it was insanely loud...last time this happened they said it was the connection between the catalytic converter and the exhaust, they said the parts themselves were fine it was just the connection. I'm in a financial bind and my stepdad is a pretty good mechanic though that's not what he does for a living, but considering he literally built himself a honda civic all from parts i'd say he could fix what ever is wrong. My question is how do i fix it and is there a way to just fix the connection without having to replace the converter or exhaust since they are both perfectly in tact, also quick fact, there was nothing that forced the connection to break, no bump or scraping the bottom of the car or anything like that. How would I fix this?
