I shifted the wrong gear from 1st to 4th instead of 2nd for a few seconds, concerned?

No...

People miss gears all the time.

About the only things that will mess things up is Downshifting when you are traveling too fast for the gear. Though... you usually can't get the stick into such a lower numbered gear when you are going too fast for it.

And when taking off in like 3rd/4th/5th from a dead stop, to where you are releasing the clutch way too slow combined with too much gas pedal, and then smell a nasty burning smell... which would be the clutch burning up.

As long as you did not grind the gears or anything like that, you wouldn't have damaged the transmission or clutch.

What you would have done is lug the engine though which isn't the best thing you can do for it. But I wouldn't worry about any long term problems though.

No . . you'd have done damage from going from 4th to 1st more likely . .The damage you do from lugging the engine is low speed engine wear from lugging around in higher gears at low speeds . . pay it no mind . . . treat that engine kindly, ease through the gears, that car will be your friend for a long time

.

Nope nothing was damaged. In fact at times just for fun I go 1st 3rd 5th

From first to 4th no not a problem

No problem. Just don't make a habit of it.

As the lights turned green I moved off and building up speed about 10mph or more and I accidentally shifted from 1st to 4th instead and the car lagged for a second or 2 before picking up speed, and when I got to 20mph then I shifted to 3rd which was about 2-4 seconds.

Did I damage the gearbox or clutch or engine or transmission as I am concerned. The car is a 1.6 manual petrol
