I left my map lights on over night. The car started fine, do I need to worry about the battery?

I am worried about the battery charge, would the battery charge up by itself over time as I use the car more? This is a fairly new car by the way.

Nothing to worry about. The car's alternator produces electricity from the motion of the engine (even when the car isn't moving) so if the car started the first time it will recharge itself back to 100% as you drive.

Nothing to worry about. I left my headlights on overnight once. Battery discharged to the point that my van wouldn't start. Recharged the battery and all is fine. AZ said I needed a battery. I said I didn't. I was right.

must have a good battery just drive to recharge battery

Apparently not.

If it started OK, you should have no further problems - but if the battery was severly discharged, don't drive it on a lot of stop-and-go short trips - - - drive enough to charge it up.

But "My Non" is correct: our recent cars shut-off lights after a while if they are left on accidentally.

I think you don't need to worry about this...

Are you sure the light was still on? Since 2000-2002 most vehicles have a "Battery Saver" circuit that shuts off domelights after 45 min.
