I hooked up one of the jumper cables incorrectly?

In the Mazda it could be the ignition, starter, relay, or the ignition fuse.

Next time you try to 'jump' a car, look at the batteries pretty close, I've seen 2 red cables or 2 black cables, don't look at the cables look right beside the battery posts there's a small '+' and '-', hook your cables '+' to '+' and '-' to '-', just let the cars sit like that for a few minutes so the running car's alternator will charge the dead battery in the other car, disconnect the cables then try to start the car. I do this every time somebody needs a jump, and I do not burn computers or any electronics

If you had hooked the donor positive to the negative post then there might be some damage but you are probably ok. It is equally important to have the cables right when changing a battery. You can kill a car doing that wrong.

Way back in the day you could blow the diodes out of your alternator for doing that but your car is modern enough that you should only see a giant spark from your jumper cables and your on board car computer is protected by MOVs that shunt the spark to ground. Since it still works, don't fix it.

edit: does the LCD or LED clock display still work? If not you blew out your car on board computer.

If you're lucky you only blew one of the "fusible links" on your car and the car of your victim. if you're not lucky you took out the alternators and possibly the computers in both cars. Pretty big "F" up Buddy!

if I had a dime for every time I've done that and watched others do it I'd be rich unless you put it on for more than a second don't fret check your batt terminals

No it's fine.

The one that needed current is a 2002 Mazda Protege and the donor was a 2009 Malibu. I connected the wires correctly on the donor car which is the malibu but when putting on the Mazda i accidentaly put the black clip which is neggative on the possitive side of the battery. When i did this the Malibu accelerated a bit but i quickly noticed and took the cable off and put it the right way. So basically i just put the neggative on possitive for a few seconds. The malibu seems to be okay nothing is wrong. Should i worry about anything? I couldnt get the mazda to turn on... Its not the battery.
