I got a chevy short block n dont know what it is?

It's a small block. the blocks were the same casting for either the 350 or 327. If it has 4 bolt mains, it's definitely a 350.

If it runs, then it's NOT a "SHORT BLOCK". A short block is the bare engine block with just the crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons installed.

You can tell what it is with the suffix code.

If you pull the engine, you can tell by the shape of the crack flange. There should be a VIN stamped on the front top of the block just below the cylinder head. How can you read the "3970010" with it in the truck? It is almost certainly a 350, but that casting was used for a few 327 and a very few 302 in 1968 and 1969.

Its numbers are 3970010. It got good power n tourqe. It says 327 or 350 but I want to know for shure. Motor still runs n is n a truck of mine.i put it in dont know what it came from thoigh. How would I find out more
