I drove my car without oil due to mechanic's fault, another mechanic says I need new motor.?

NO engine will last more than a few minutes with NO oil in the engine. Did the oil light come on? If not, you may be OK, but without a tear down and look see, we are only speculating.

If the noise is gone and a compression and leak down check comes out OK, then your engine is probably OK. Have those tests done.

the dipstick doesn't go to the bottom of the oil pan. No oil showing on the dipstick doesn't necessarily mean that all of the oil has leaked out.

If the oil pressure light came on or the oil pressure gauge dropped and you stopped immediately, all might be OK. If you kept driving the car with no oil pressure, YOU probably did severe damage to your engine. Luckily it was just a 01 VW so it is not worth much. I would not want to spend much money getting it repaired.

I assume you have never seen the tool time episode where Jill destroyed the Chevy Nomad engine because she was too busy to stop and check it. You never drive a car with an oil light unless you want to pay for a new engine.

It was ok until the low oil pressure light came on. At that time you should stop immediately as Rolomatic said. The fact that you heard noises means there was metal rubbing on metal and parts are scored. It needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

this ones just as much your fault as anyones, sorry kiddo.

Yesterday, I made a trip out of town, I drove collectively about 250 miles or so before I got home; during the drive home (about 100 miles or so I drove it making the sound) my car started making a clicking sound but I couldn't stop to check anything because it was late and decided to wait until I returned home to have my regular mechanic shop check it out. I took it in, they checked my oil, it was completely empty. They took it in and did further investigating and found that my last oil change (from a Valvoline in town 4 weeks ago) had not replaced the oil filter correctly and it had leaked all my oil out. They told me to call Valvoline and have it towed somewhere that could fix it because I basically needed a new motor and Valvoline would be responsible for it due to a FL law because the car has less than 100,000 miles on it. After some phone calls, Valvoline just replaced the oil after my normal mechanics had topped it off (I basically had two oil changes today) and basically said, "it's fixed now, no more sounds, see?" My question is, since I have two different perspectives from this, should I really peruse for a new motor because of Valvoline's fault or is my car okay? I still owe money on the loan, so I need it to last obviously, but I can't afford future problems that can happen from a blown motor either, and any unbiased opinions would be great. Thank you! I did request documents from both places, but Valvoline said it will be mailed to me soon. I drive a 01 VW Beetle
