I changed my thermostat and coolant leaked out. Can I put water in it?

Most of the coolant came out of the engine. Is it alright if I put water until I get home and put in oem coolant

Will the water burn off

Yes you can add water to it. When you get home, drain some coolant (about as half of what you added in water) and fill it with coolant.

Yes,you can use water and Yes it will boil off sooner than coolant.

Where did the coolant leak from? You had better have the cooling system leak repaired before the engine overheats and you blow a head-gasket.

if you just add water,..(.which is fine ) you're just diluting the entire system...it would be better to get some anti-freeze ( coolant ) and use it.............. either pre- mix 50 / 50,....or full strength and use your own water
