Call your gas company. I had a similar problem. My gas fireplace ended up having a small leak just below the pilot light. The technician used a "sniffer" to find out where the leak was. Cost about $150 to repair (in Washington).
Call the gas company and tell them. They will be able to detect a leak.
Try checking your pilot light if that is out then that's most likely what that smell is
Check the pilot light for the oven. The oven does not get used often and you may not realize that it is out.
