Cracked heads, forget it! Even if it is an iroc it still don't look coooooooooool while it's broke down collecting dust! Local library will have auto manuals to study so you can at least learn what a cylinder head is. Any used car is gonna need some work sooner or later, you don't know a lot about an engine so you'll have to pay someone, sounds like you'd be better off in a 'Granny Mobile' that hasn't been driven half way in the grave!
Before deciding on a car discuss it with parents, a smart friend, a mechanic, a friend's parents, anybody with some experience and knowledge
Cracked heads aren't really important unless you want the engine to run. If the heads are cracked, either it overheated, froze up with water instead of coolant, or was pushed way beyond its design parameters. You probably need to replace or at least check the block and all internal components. If you are willing to spend about $6000 on a crate engine plus installation or can do a decent job cheaper, and the vehicle is not too expensive, go for it. The first vehicle my son bought (was 17) had thrown a rod. We tore it down to the frame and did a lot of work on it. He got a donor vehicle and pulled the engine and tranny (went from automatic to standard). It took several months but he learned a lot. Working on vehicles made him decide that he wanted to be a fitter/welder.
Cracked heads means your going to buy a car you can't drive til you spend the money to replace the heads which is a min top end rebuilt and depend on the year could cost a few grand to fix I personally wouldn't buy it Its a POS. You are not going to be able to drive the car and will be taking a bus til you fix it
Hope it helps

The cylinder heads are one of the more important parts of an engine. If they're cracked and not replaced the engine is pretty worthless. Figure about $2,000 to repair this properly
Cracked heads could mean the cylinders filled with water while it sat. You are likely to be looking for a replacement engine, though they are plentiful. Get advice from someone mechanically qualified who will actually look at the car.
If it has cracked head/s it needs a complete rebuild, and that's a couple thousand bucks at least.
If it's REAL cheap, it could be a good buy.
Do it
This would be my first time every purchasing a car. I found one where I live but the owner says it has cracked heads? What are heads? How important are they? By the way, it's a iroc z28.
