I accidentally went 1st gear at 4000rpm,Did I damage the car?

Should be fine as long as your not noticing anything different in the sound and feel when you're driving. Pay more attention to what you're doing next time.

The reason your tachometer goes up as high as 8,000 rpm is so that you would notice if it were to over rev. As long as you do not hit that red portion where it starts to be considered over revving, you are okay.

you're fine but don't do it a lot. that's a lot of stress on the gearbox from both sides (the mass of the car on one side and the compression of the engine on the other. add in the stress of fast spinning parts and you induce a lot of extra wear by doing so. luckily, gearboxes and clutches are meant to last so if this happens a couple times you'll still be fine.

4000 rpm is not harmful for a petrol car. Most will achieve 6000 - 7000 without damage.

If its red-lined at 7000 then you are fine. In fact, if you are always changing gear at very low revs then you may need to take it for a "sporting" drive once in a while and clean out the engine - will help it pass the MOT emissions tests. I bet that you are doing towards 3000 when cruising on the motorway.....

Nope, you're just fine.

Nah, don't worry about it, as long as you didn't go in to the red you should be fine.

Haha no its fine.

I have an astra 1.6 and accidentally pushed the accerlator a bit hard and it shoot up to 4000rpm in 1st gear, Im concerned if it can ruin the gearbox or the car. The rev counter is up to 8000rpm and like the red coloured line starts at 7000rpm.

I drove the car for about 20 minutes or maybe longer
