How to add an ac to my mini cooper?

The only affordable way to do it is to find a donor car to strip the system from. Being able to do the grunt work of removing and mounting the parts could put the cost under $500, but since you live in a place where you rely on the AC a lot during the summer and it is May already that could be a lot of hot work. I used to live in Phoenix so I learned to dislike working on car A/Cs.

If you decide to go that way (or are thinking about it) touch base with the A/C shop you will use to get it all going, which will be about $100-$200 of the total. Make sure you are not missing anything when you strip the donor and have it all in the shape the tech is expecting when he starts.

To keep the price down your best bet is to find a donor in a pull-it-yourself wrecking yard. One of the advantages is that you will get practice with the access - especially getting to the evaporator and any controls behind the dash that have to be changed.

More than the car is worth, sell the car and buy one with Air Con it will work out cheaper.

Due to the way modern vehicles are constructed, if it wasn't born with AC or an other feature such as manual transmission its not cost effective to try and add it, and in fact most shops wont touch the job, But as another poster pointed out if you did find a donor vehicle and could do the majority of the work yourself you might get away with it, Personally I'm a master mechanic and I wouldn't do it, Just too much work, the under dash evap core ducting would most likely be a nightmare, and buying all the components new would cost more than you bought the vehicle for, I have no idea where your other posters pulled that 1000 number from, the compressor alone could cost that much on a Kraut mobile, In case you haven't heard BMW owns that company, and there aint nothing cheap on those things,

£££Thousands. The parts alone are probably close to £1000, plus it'll be at least a day's work to fit, at the £70-£80 the average garage charges.

Sell it and buy one with AC if it matters that much to you.

Not less than £1000

I just purchased a mini cooper 2007 from the auction at a very good price. The car is fab and has everything i want it too except an ac. I was surprised that it didn't have an ac as i rely on ac a lot in the summer and all my previous cars have had an ac.

So instead of selling the car i thought id just get an ac put in this one.

My question is how much will it cost for me to have an ac put in this mini and is it possible? Thanks
