How much would it cost to fix a broken gear shift knob on Chrysler Sebring 2002 and do I really need a mechanic?

A lot of places sell Aftermarket Gear shift knobs. The knob slip over the gear shift lever and there is a set screw on the side that you tighten against the shaft. You can get them from most car parts suppliers like Autozone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's auto parts.

Get an 8 Ball , drill a hole 1/2 way through , fill it with JB Weld and stuff it on .

That's way more cool than any factory shift handle .

sounds like you need to replace the shift lever, and that could be difficult. Look up the procedure, but I would bet a full set of tools and some time is involved

go to pick & pull by a used one, second why is he not fix in it you know you can do it

My stupid husband got drunk and manhandled my gear shift one night. He broke the knob off completely, stripping the screws and breaking the mechanism. The transmission stil shifts with no problems I just have to use a bobby pin to ouch down the broken white plastic "straw" that unlocks the shifter. I can easily shift between neutral and drive options however reversing and park I put effort into avoiding. Ugh! He really needs to learn to fix what he breaks!
