ITS EXPENSIVE!! BUT BEFORE YOU SPEND ALOT OF MONEY, CHECK THE MINOR THINGS.. CHECK THE FUEL FILTER, FUSES, RELAY, AND SEE IF YOU CAN HOOK UP A FUEL PRESSURE GAGE TO YOUR FUEL LINE.. U CAN RENT ONE AT YOUR AUTO PART STORE.. IF YOUR NOT GETTING ANY PRESSURE, THEN CHANGE YOUR FUEL PUMP..
WHAT YEAR!!!! be SPECIFIC! older ones had FUEL PUMPS under the car near FUEL TANK! They are SIMPLE. Chances are you do NOT need one! Look BEHIND BATTERY under hood and check the FUEL PUMP FUSE behind the PLASTIC panel under WIND SHIELD! There is a RELAY with a FUSE on top of it! IS this CIS-EIII injection or NEWER TYPE! NEED YEAR OF CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OLD cars have BAD GAS in tank, that may need to be PUMPED OUT of system! EASY if you by pass FUEL PUMP relay and open up FUEL RETURN LINE! It wil NOT the fuel pump! You can LISTEN FOR IT WORKING by opening the FUEL FILL DOOR. SEND ME THE YEAR of this thing! EVEN SEND PICTURES of under the HOOD if you want to! rgmuske@yahoo.com
Which 500SEL? The W126 from the mid 80's or the W140 from the early 90's?
A car won't necessarily need a new pump just because stale gas went through it. But yes, if the fuel gummed up, yes, it could ruin the pump.
pre set your budget.
500 SEL Mercedes, my grandfather started it with old gas and now I am told it needs a new fuel pump. Is that really the issue or is it something else? How much is it going to cost to fix this
